The Pain Team

Chronic pain may require additional care apart from your primary care provider. A multidisciplinary “pain team” can consist of a pain specialist, psychologist, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, psychologist, and physical therapist.1 Specialists, such as a surgeon, oncologist, ophthalmologist, and others may be part of the team depending on the type of pain and/or procedure provided. You may also require pain management after a dental procedure or dermatologist appointment.2,3 All of these team members can work toward managing your pain and creating a treatment plan and goals.1
